Designated Workspace
Remote working means the balance between work and home life can become blurred. Rather than working in your bed or on the sofa, try to set yourself a designated workspace. Not only will this help you to remain more organised, but it should help with the work-life balance too. When you’re in this space you know it’s time to work, and this should help you to stay more motivated.
Stay Organised
This one is much easier said than done, but try to stay as organised as possible. There are some great tools out there to help you with this. We use Teamworks to keep a track of ongoing tasks for each client, keep a running to-do list of tasks we need to complete, and log our timers. This tool is completely invaluable and really helps to stay on track. Google Calendar is another excellent tool, not only for scheduling meetings but also planning out your day.
Take Screen Breaks
While working from home, chances are you’re on screens a lot more than you were before. In the office you may have had breaks for meetings or team catch ups, but now this is entirely on your computer. Therefore, as a best practice we try to make sure we’re taking a 5 minute screen break every now and then just so we aren’t staring at a screen for hours. It’s also good practice to move around and stretch while you’re having a break from your screen too.
Daily Communication
While working from home, maintaining good communication with your colleagues is arguably one of the most important things for your business. At Thunderbolt, we hold a short morning and afternoon meeting every day to check in and to talk through any issues we might need help with.
